It’s the most exciting time of the year, fall tv premiere time!! I’ve always loved this time, getting my copy of Entertainment Weekly in the mail, that double-issue covering all the new shows. The new buffet of shows this season are generally kind of bland, with maybe one or two shows I’m genuinely excited for. The great ones are all mid-season shows (or winter ones, at least for Canada). Regardless, below is my Top Ten list of new fall shows.
#10 Angel from Hell

This show is probably going to get cancelled, but I’m going to enjoy it while we have it. I think Jane Lynch and Maggie Lawson are going to have excellent chemistry and it’ll be a hoot to see them play off each other. The show seems to have an ‘Odd-Couple’-esque vibe to it, which I totally dig. Definitely room for more female-led comedies on tv.
#9 Scream Queens

I’ll admit that I am slightly wary of this because Ryan Murphy can’t write women or maintain a narrative, but conceptually I think the show sounds awesome. And the cast! *sigh*. I just hope the writing staff behind this is smart, creative and dedicated to creating the best show they can, *despite* Murphy’s involvement.
#8 The Muppets

It’s the Muppets. Of *course* I’m excited.
#7 Rosewood

Fox had me at Morris Chestnut. He’s so charismatic and talented, I’ll watch him in anything. His involvement helps offset the blahness of the show’s premise; but I enjoy many a crime-show when the characters are compelling. The chemistry between the two leads just pops off the screen and I love that it’s two people of colour leading.
#6 Lucifer

I’m as shocked as anyone that this show made my list, everything I’ve read about the show made it feel like yet another formulaic show about a supernatural casanova that solves crimes. Yet, the trailer was quite good; it was funny and the chemistry between the two leads was surprisingly compelling. Though it *is* Fox, so it’ll likely be cancelled.
#5 Blindspot

First, I adore Jaime Alexander so seeing her get a lead in her own show is wonderful. Second, it’s about tattoos; a long-time Prison Break fan, I’m digging the love-letter this series is sending up. Plus, the NBC brass have talked about Blindspot’s similarities to Blacklist and that’s a great sell for me. And maybe they’ll even do a crossover sometime.
#4 Minority Report

Dear Fox’s newest scifi show; I shall excitedly watch all 13 episodes of you that will get produced, I’ll watch them aired out of order, I’ll celebrate your badass lead lady of colour and your cool tech and I’ll grieve your cancellation.
#3 The Catch

Technically this is a midseason show, but I had to include it because I’m that excited for it. It’s the newest drama from Shondaland, and I worship at the Church of Shondaland. This looks exactly like what the empire has become known for: badass female lead, supreme sexiness, fabulous clothes, unexpected twists and turns, and drama drama drama.
#2 Supergirl

It’s about damn time we had a female-led superhero show on tv. Loved the trailer, the casting, love the tone it showed off. I’m looking for a badass show with a super proactive female lead that focuses on civic responsibility, concepts of destiny, and fx, but also the “feminine” story elements like friendship, hair/makeup (she does have great hair), and emotional-based character development. I’m bummed that there is no chance for any crossovers with the other DC shows, but that’s what fic is for. I’m optimistic as Berlanti is EPing and he’s pretty reliable.
#1 Legends of Tomorrow

This is another midseason show, but I don’t care. I’m more upset that I have to wait until like March for this. SARA LANCE. We’re getting Sara Fucking Lance back. *claps enthusiastically*. It was a mistake for Arrow to kill her off, but I’m so glad she’s coming back. In addition, the series has a stellar cast, love them all. Also, we’re getting Wentworth Miller & Dominic Purcell back together *more clapping*.
SARA LANCE. JUST LOOK AT HER MUSCULAR ARMS.
