Do you love pop culture and all things fangirly*?

Do you live in Canada?

Do you love Canadian stuff?

Are you a feminist?

Do you have opinions that you want to share?

Do you enjoy expressing your emotions in gif-form?

Would you like to join a brand-new upstart blog?

If you answered ‘yes’ to these questions than TCF might just be the place for you. We’re a brand new upstart, but we’re hoping to become the premier site for Canadian fan info and analysis. To do that, we want to add some awesome contributors to our ranks. *wink wink*.

You can be heavily experienced or you can be brand new to blog writing; we’re open to everyone. People from all regions of the country are encouraged to apply as are people of all diversive backgrounds and identities.

What is Expected of Our Writers:

There are three main categories of how you can contribute here:

  • weekly contributor: you’ll be responsible for posting on a weekly basis, you can cover a variety of topics or have a “beat” such as a specific comic book, etc. The entire staff coordinates topics so we don’t get overlap. [CURRENTLY OPEN]
  • regular contributor: you’ll be responsible for posting at least once or twice a month as things interest you [CURRENTLY OPEN]
  • guest contributor: if you have a topic you really want to write an essay about but don’t want to commit to being a full-time contributor, this is for you [CURRENTLY OPEN]

Your work load will depend on what type of contributor you want to be. We don’t have a word-length minimum at TCF as some posts can be primarily gif-squee or 5K essays. It’s dependent on topic and personal style. You will be expected to follow the community guidelines in regards to writing for an intersection, feminist, non-oppressive environment. If you’re not exactly sure what that means, we can show you. We also expect our writers to maintain a level of courtesy and allyship amongst other social media platforms that are easily connected to this blog. You may troll on gamergaters all you want though.

What You’ll Get Out of It

  • experience! This is a great opportunity for new writers, students, etc.
  • fun & friends! We’re a pretty cool group of people here at TCF, so you’ll make friends all across Canada
  • access to cool stuff.
  • treats! This could be yummy baked goods or a custom fanfic – our admin team is weird like that :P

To Apply – Weekly & Regular Contributors

  • send us a cover letter and writing samples to contact@thecanadianfangirl.com
  • In your cover letter, please tell us a little bit about yourself, your experiences with fandom, your province of residence, and what you’d be interested in doing here at TCF (such as subject area and type of contributor). Feel free to be as nerdy and casual as you want, we want to get to know you.
  • Writing Samples: please submit 2-3 samples of your writing style. This can be an essay you wrote in school, a blog/tumblr/LJ post, or something you wrote just for this application. The subject should be within the realm of pop culture and should showcase a) your ability to be critically engaged b) your personality.
  • we take privacy very seriously here at TCF, so we assure no information you provide will go past the hiring staff (which is two people). Additionally, you are not required to submit any personal information in your application (aside from your province), you may even submit under a fan name if you so choose.

We’ll respond to every application we receive and we hope to begin interviewing mid-August. Interviews can be conducted over skype, chat, or other preferred method. Applications for regular contributors will remain open until September 30, 2015 and the ‘guest contributor’ application will remain open indefinitely. Please see the ‘Contributor’ tab for more info on this.

If you’ve already written something and are looking for publication and/or crossposting, attach the article and tell us where else it has been posted. We’re open to crossposting.
